Meters Explained

pH Meter:
A pH meter is an electric device used to measure hydrogen-ion activity (acidity or alkalinity) in solution.

Conductivity Meter:
A conductivity meter measures the level of conductivity in solutions. Conductivity is an ability of materials (solutions, metals or gases) to pass an electric current. Conductivity is useful in determining the overall health of a natural water body. It is also a way to measure changes in wastewater procedures at water treatment plants.

ORP Meter:
Oxidation reduction potential, or ORP, is a measure of a substance's ability to either oxidize or reduce another substance. A positive reading on an ORP meter means that the substance is an oxidizing agent and a negative reading indicates that the substance is a reducing agent.
ORP meters are integral to water testing because they indicates how sanitized or contaminated water is based on its oxidation and reduction properties. In order to be safe to consume, recycle, or come in contact with our skin, water is treated with a sanitizing agent to have a higher oxidation potential, producing a higher ORP reading. By routinely monitoring ORP levels, it’s possible to monitor the effectiveness of a sanitizing agent and adjust your water treatment plan accordingly.

TDS Meter:
A TDS meter is a small hand-held device used to indicate the Total Dissolved Solids in a solution, usually water. Since dissolved ionized solids, such as salts and minerals, increase the conductivity of a solution, a TDS meter measures the conductivity of the solution and estimates the TDS from that reading.

Resistivity Meter:
The resistivity can be expressed using the SI unit ohm metre (Ω⋅m) — i.e. ohms multiplied by square metres (for the cross-sectional area) then divided by metres (for the length).
A resistivity meter is an electronic device used to measure the flow of electric current through the ground from probes inserted at regular intervals. Resistivity is defined as the amount of resistance to current flow, therefore the device can determine different soil compositions based on the readings.

Salinity Meter:
Salinity Meters are devices that are used to measure the amount of salt present in a substance. You can purchase salinity meters either on their own or as a sensor in multiparameter meters, which can measure other water quality parameters such as pH, conductivity, TDS and more.
