Laboratory Centrifuges
Laboratory Centrifuges for Research, Clinical and Testing Applications
Shop laboratory centrifuges for sample preparation in Australian research, clinical, veterinary and testing laboratories. A centrifuge spins samples to separate components according to their sedimentation behaviour under centrifugal force. Compare micro, benchtop and multi-purpose lab centrifuges to suit your tubes, sample volumes and method.
Choosing the Right Laboratory Centrifuge
Speed and RCF
RPM describes rotor speed in revolutions per minute. Relative centrifugal force (RCF), expressed as × g, also depends on rotor radius. The same RPM can therefore produce different forces in different rotors. Match your protocol’s required RCF, run time and temperature requirements to the selected centrifuge and rotor rather than comparing RPM alone. High-speed centrifuges are useful when a method requires higher forces, but the rotor and tubes must be rated for the operating conditions.
Rotor Type and Tube Capacity
Check tube volume, dimensions, number of positions and any required adaptors. Fixed-angle rotors hold tubes at a set angle; swing-out rotors allow buckets to swing towards a horizontal position during operation. Choose the configuration specified by your separation method. Confirm whether the rotor is included and whether it supports blood tubes, capillary tubes, microtubes or microplates. Balance loads and follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions.
Micro and Benchtop Centrifuges
Micro Centrifuges suit small-volume samples and compatible microtube or PCR tube workflows. Benchtop centrifuges offer convenient laboratory placement, with multi-purpose models providing different rotor configurations. Compare footprint, capacity and controls as well as speed.
Common Laboratory Centrifuge Applications
Depending on the model, rotor and validated method, centrifugation supports blood and capillary tube processing, cell separation, PCR sample preparation, DNA and RNA workflows, protein research and centrifugal microfiltration with compatible filter devices. Clinical and veterinary use requires equipment and consumables suitable for the intended procedure; check each product’s intended use and specifications.
